Fourth Friday Fireside Film Festival: Daughters

  • Arlington Community Church 52 Arlington Avenue Kensington, CA, 94707 United States (map)

Daughters (2024). This documentary lets us see beyond prison walls. This is one of the finest, most heart-touching documentaries – or, for that matter, any kind of film – that you will see this year. Prison inmates in Washington, D. C. participate in a 10-week program that will make them eligible to share a Daddy Daughter Dance evening with their daughters – ages 5 through their teens –  many of whom haven’t seen their fathers for years.  The movie follows a handful of fathers, too, as they prepare for the evening with the help of a life coach, who tells them “It’s gonna be an emotional roller coaster.” Week by week, we watch as the participating girls and dads prepare until, in Week 10, there are the fathers, dressed in suits instead of prison uniforms, waiting in a line to greet the girls. It’s likely that you will not leave Daughters dry-eyed.
