On this Racial Justice Sunday we’ll welcome a special guest, Eric Mills from Richmond Neighborhood Housing Services, who will share with us about the work of his organization and how it connects to the Black Wealth Builder’s Fund. Before interviewing Eric, Pastor Jen will share a brief homily on Luke 5:1-11, in which Jesus asks Simon to cast his net into the deep water. For the next few weeks we’ll consider what it might look like for us to go deeper in our collective racial justice work.
We’ll enjoy special music this Sunday from Susan Russell and our Choir, directed by Jeffrey Frederic Paul, and accompanied by Tim K. Murphy who will also provide this week's Prelude and Postlude (see Tim's Music Notes in this week’s edition of The ParishScope). Anthony Knight will serve as Liturgist.

We are excited to welcome Eric Mills, Lead Certified Housing Counselor at Richmond Neighborhood Housing Services to hear about his work and the impact of the Black Wealth Builders Fund in his context. This Sunday will also kick off a new sermon series, “Into the Deep: Following the Teachings of Jesus Beyond Conventional Wisdom.” During this series we will consider our engagement in the work of racial justice and our ongoing commitment to the Black Wealth Builders program.
During these weeks we’ll recall the story of how the Black Wealth Builders project was born and the ongoing work we’ve done as a church to learn about and address racism within ourselves and racial injustice in our local communities. We’ve studied and discussed, we’ve fundraised, donated and spread the word. How might God be calling us to go deeper?
