Dear Church,
On this eve of Election Day, I am holding each of you and our nation in prayer. Our sanctuary will be open tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov. 5), beginning at 7am with the polls, until 3pm (thanks to many wonderful volunteers!). And Ruth is bringing her therapy dog, Emma, from 1pm - 2pm. You are invited to come, to take a break from the news, to pray, meditate, or simply rest.
This is an opportunity to remember again how your faith calls you to hope, and no matter the outcome of this election, to faithful action, care for the marginalized, love of neighbor, and even love of enemies.
Our sermon series this November aims to help us face this election and the weeks to follow with hope that goes beyond "red" or "blue". Whoever you are voting for, and whoever wins the election, I hope you’ll join us on these important Sundays as we cling to one another and to our faith.
Please take good care of yourself in the coming days. Spend as much time as you can doing things that ground you and fill your cup, and as little time as you can watching the news! Drink water, breathe, go outside, be in community, call or write to a friend or a family member you can count on for support, or who might need yours.
And if things get dark, remember to wait, take a few deep breaths, and look for the light. It's always there.
With love and hope,
Pastor Jen
As we approach the election and whatever comes next, we are called to be people who "see beyond". What we see (especially when we watch the news!) isn't always hopeful, but Jesus calls us to see with hope, to believe that more is possible! Like the blind who have been healed, we're called to "come and see," to see what is unseen by many, to see the way God works in unexpected ways and in unexpected places, bringing life where all signs point to death.
Join us in November for a sermon series that aims to help us face this upcoming election and the weeks to follow with hope that goes beyond "red" or "blue".
