Faith Formation Fourth Friday Fireside Film Festival: Barbie

  • Arlington Community Church 52 Arlington Avenue Kensington, CA, 94707 United States (map)

Barbie, the very popular, acclaimed, Oscar nominated film may take us by surprise. Rather than the vapid content we might expect, there will come a message - perhaps several messages! Barbie is given a choice — symbolized by a pair of high heels vs. Birkenstocks — between staying in Barbieland or entering the human world. With Ken trailing behind, she embarks on a multi-legged journey to figure out what’s going on. She is quickly overwhelmed with the beauty and pain of the human world.

Barbie quickly learns that being a woman in a fallen world is to face impossible contradictions and expectations, from without and within. Mostly, she learns that being a woman is exhausting.

Barbie will be shown in the Fireside Room at Arlington Community Church on Friday, October 25 at 1:30. Of course, there will be popcorn and lemon water, and a short discussion of the film afterward.
