Community Potluck: A Conversation with Bopha Ul

  • Arlington Community Church 52 Arlington Avenue Kensington, CA, 94707 United States (map)

The Board of Missions is sponsoring the program for the September potluck dinner.  It will be a conversation with Bopha Ul, who leads the volunteers at Rogers & Rosewater.  R&R distributes about 250 hot meals to food-and-shelter-insecure folks in Oakland every week.  Here is how they describe their mission:

Rogers & Rosewater

Be kind. Be kind. Be kind.

Named after Mr. Rogers and character Eliot Rosewater from Kurt Vonnegut’s book “God Bless You Mr. Rosewater”, Rogers & Rosewater mission is to feed as many people as we can.

We believe that food is a necessity and a human right.

No one should go hungry!

We have been bringing hot homemade meals to people facing food insecurity in Oakland every Wednesday night since December 2018.

The world we live in can be harsh and cruel to people-especially those who are experiencing homelessness.

And all we want to be is the kindness in it - one meal at a time.

Some folks from Arlington Community Church have been baking cookies for the R&R outreach for the past couple of years.  We are part of a local team called “Love Bite Bakers, Makers, and Home Chefs,” which is organized by Susan Ireland, a Kensington resident.  Susan will join Bopha at our potluck to tell the story about LoveBite’s part in the outreach.

If you’d like to bring a donation for Rogers & Rosewater, we’ll have a box for that and can give it to Bopha before she leaves.
