Faith Formation First Friday Fireside Film Festival- A Man Called Otto

  • Arlington Community Church 52 Arlington Avenue Kensington, CA, 94707 United States (map)

The Faith Formation team will present the first film of its summer series on Friday, June 2.  Viewers should try to arrive at about 1:30, so the film can start at 1:45.

This first film is titled A Man Called Otto:  An American version of the Swedish film, A Man Called Ove.  Tom Hanks plays the lead as Otto, an older widower, who has become a gloomy, grumpy, hyper-critical neighborhood scold.  When a young family moves into the community, life begins to change for Otto and thereby for the neighborhood.  As you might expect, Tom Hanks is masterful, but his performance is all but eclipsed by that of Mariana Trevino as the loving, outspoken, busy, and imposing wife of the young newcomer family. The cat, Avery, is also a significant character!  You will chuckle and you will weep as great changes happen in Otto’s life.

Popcorn and lemon water will be served in our cozy Fireside Room.

Faith Formation invites you to linger for a short discussion after the showing.
