For many years, following our ACC Christmas Eve service, a group of us went the short distance to our neighbors, the Carmelite Sisters’ chapel. This year right after our worship service, about 6:30pm, we can either walk or drive there. The chapel is lovely. We gather in the pews and then, song sheets provided, sing familiar carols to the Sisters. Sometimes as a special treat, they sing to us as well.
If you’ve not been there before, you will find the experience a wonderful extension of our own lovely service. We arrive in silence, and enter into sacred space. You will not see the Sisters because they are cloistered behind a screen at the altar. Their presence is felt. While we’re there only a short while, maybe 30 minutes, it is a shared special time.
They can see us, and especially appreciate it if there are children in the front pew. If not raining, the walk is very doable, but bring a flashlight as lighting is fairly dim on the driveway to the chapel. There is a parking lot for those who prefer or need a ride.
